Another terrible garment fraudster was caught by the law enforcement forces on Friday. This mastermind accused was identified as Shahed alias Saeed. He was involved in about 5,000 theft cases. The entire theft process was being conducted under the leadership of Saeed, intelligence officials said.
According to sources, Saeed has established family members abroad by selling stolen RMG products. He has a good number houses and cars in Moulvibazar. He has also many trucks, pickup and covered vans.
Earlier, Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) arrested seven people for stealing RMG products. At that time a huge amount of clothes were recovered from them.
Additional Commissioner of Police AKM Hafiz Akter confirmed this to the journalists at the DMP’s media center on Monday noon.
According to the press briefing, a series of raids led to the arrest of those involved in the theft of garment products and they were arrested from the Burichang of Comilla and Uttara of capital on Friday.
At that time, two covered vans with 4,705 pieces of garments were seized from the spots, Hafiz Akter said.
On May 11, Jayanti Knit Wire Limited, a garment exporter, sent 28,820 pieces in 364 cartons for export through Chattogram Port in a covered van through a transport agency.
However, after the consignment of goods reached the buyer, it was seen that there is less than 1,100 pieces of goods in total. This caused financial loss to the exporting company. Later, a case was filed at Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station on behalf of Jayanti Knitwear.
Similarly, on September 15, the gang stole a huge quantity of garment products from Clothing Limited.
Hafiz akter added that the arrested Saeed was the ringleader of the gang and Controls the whole cycle.
This gang lurk at various places on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway and steal at convenient places. They also stole many covered vans. There are about 24 cases against Saeed in different police stations in the country for this crime.
