Staff Reporter:Seven members of Police’s Detective Branch have been suspended for their alleged involvement in taking Tk 4.5 lakh as extortion from a businessman by threatening him about crossfire.
Maruf Hossain Sorder, Superintendent of Dhaka District Police, the suspended policemen including a Sub-Inspector, an Assistant Sub-Inspector and five constables.
Maruf Hossain Sorder, superintendent of Dhaka District Police confirmed it to journalists.
He said, “We suspended them upon receiving complaints of harassing a man. We are investigating the allegation.”
A police source said the accused men detained Sohel—a businessman from South Keraniganj area—on Wednesday and extorted the money.
They released him after the family gave them Tk 4.5 lakh, the source said.
