Kurigram Correspondent :All the 16 rivers, which flow in Kurigram district, swelled due to onrush of water from upstream.Kurigram Water Development Board official sources said, the water level in the Brahmaputra River is flowing 31cm above danger mark at Chilmari point within the last 24 hours.Thousands of chars and islands in Chilmari, Roumari and Rajibpur upazila have been flood affected. Some 60 thousand people have been marooned. Scarcity of drinking water prevails and the rural communication system collapsed. The day-labourers are in a trouble. River erosion continues in Rajibpur upazila, local sources said. Abed Ali, an inhabitant near Jatrapur Haat under Sadar upazila, told of immense sufferings as flood water surrounded his house. Chairman of Jatrapur Union Md Ayub Ali said that most areas of his union are char areas. Flood water inundated those houses. “Flood affected people came to me for relief, but I have not received any relief for flood victims. The district administration sources said rice of relief was distributed in all the unions including flood areas before Eid,” said the chairman. No allocation has been granted for flood victims. Executive Engineer of Kurigram Water Development Board Mahfuzur Rahman said, the water level in the rivers rises, and the Brahmaputra River is flowing 31cm above danger mark at Chilmari point in the last 24 hours and the Dharla River is flowing slightly below danger mark at Dharla Bridge point.
