Police and joint forces in their separate drives arrested 52 activists of BNP and Jamaat-Shibir from different places of Joypurhat, Comilla, Bagerhat and Chittagong districts from Thursday night to Friday morning.
In Joypurhat, at least 25 activists of BNP and Jamaat were arrested from five upazilas of the district in separate drives from Thursday midnight to early Friday on suspicion of their involvement in acts of sabotage.
In Chittagong, police and joint forces arrested 16 Jamaat-Shibir activists from different places of
Sitakunda and Satkania upazilas early in the morning.
The law enforces also recovered 1.5kg of gunpowder, two machetes and a huge amount of bomb-making materials from Sitakunda upazila. The arrestees include nine from Sitkakunda and seven from Satkania upazila.
In Comilla, police in an overnight drive arrested eight activists of BNP and Jamaat in different places of the district from Thursday night to Friday morning for the same reason.
Of them three were BNP men and five Jamaat activists.
In Bagerhat, police arrested three activists of BNP and Jamaat from Kumarkhali village of Morelganj upazila early in the morning on charge of their involvement in torching a Hindu temple in the upazila.
The arrestees were identified as BNP activist Chan Mia, 30 and Mamun Hossain, 32, and Jamaat man Fakhrul Islam of the village.
