52 fishermen arrested from Sundarbans for fishing illegally

Members of the coastguards of the Western Zone deployed Dublar Char (island) in the Eastern Division of Sundarbans arrested 52 fishermen along with 5 fishing trawlers and 5 fishing boats from near the newly raised Bangobandhu Char (island) on the charge of catching fish illegally from the Bay of Bengal on Tuesday, according to a delayed report received here.
It is reported that on the day while the coastguards led by Lt. Al-Mahmud, Operation Officer were discharging their normal patrol duties in the coastal areas they found the fishermen were catching fish from there illegally. Then the coastguards arrested those (fishermen) along with their fishing trawlers, boats and equipments. Later they (coastguards) searched the seized fishing trawlers and boats and recovered 8 lakh fries of Farsha fish from them.
The market price of the seized fishing trawlers, boats, fishing equipments and fish fries is Tk.2 crs 26 lakh 50 thousand. The recovered fish fries were released in the sea-water. On the other hand, arrested fishermen and fishing trawlers and boats were handed over to Mongla PS (in Bagerhat district) for taking legal action against the fishermen.
