A total of 500 distressed and other underprivileged households hardest-hit by the Covid-19 pandemic were given humanitarian assistance to mitigate their livelihood related hardships.
Each of them was given a food package containing 30 kilograms of rice, ten kilograms of potato, two kilograms of pulse, salt and edible oil each.
There were also given 10 face masks, five oral saline, two laundry soap, two bath soap and ten paracetamol tablets each so that they can protect them from the virus infection.
Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) organized the distribution programme at its city bhaban premises today in association with Gram Unnayan Karma (GAK) and Pubali Bank Limited (PBL).
City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton accompanied by GAK Founder and Executive Director Dr Khandaker Alamgir Hossain and PBL Deputy General Manager Abu Layes Muhammad Shamsuzzaman distributed the humanitarian support.
GAK Advisory Committee Members Prof Saiduzzaman and Prof Mustafizur Rahman, Senior Director Dr Mahbub Alam, Director Jasim Uddin and Coordinator Sardar Zia Uddin were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Liton said the government under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina remained beside the public in general.
He said all the worst-affected people are being brought under humanitarian support so that they can mitigate their financial constraint being caused by the global pandemic. He, however, urged the recipients to follow health rules strictly to control the spread of the deadly virus.
