A five-year-old was strangled to death after rape in Chattogram’s Chandgaon area on Sunday. Police recovered the body from under the bed of the victim’s residence at noon.
The incident took place at a building in Chandgaon, said police.
Inspector (Investigation) Rajesh Barua of Chandgaon Police Station said “The victim’s mother left for office around 7:30am in the morning.” “A neighbour used to look after the girl when her mother was at office. This morning, the woman found the victim sleeping around 7:30am after the mother left for office,” said Inspector Rajesh.
“The woman returned to her house and fell asleep. Around 9:00am, she woke up and asked her children to go check on the child who reported that she was missing,” the police official added.
“She informed the matter to the victim’s mother and other neighbours. While searching the flat again, they found the body of the victim under the bed. Her face was covered by a t-shirt,” Rajesh said.
“The body bore several injury marks and had signs of rape. Police sent the for autopsy,” said the police officer.
Police are trying to gather information to identify the killer.
