Five electrical transformers of Palli Bidyut have been stolen from Eri-Boro Irrigation Project in Bhangura Upazila Pabn. The theft took place at Pach Betuan village in Dilpashar union of the upazila on Wednesday night (April 20).
It is learned that the miscreants first unloaded the rural electricity transformers connecting the deep tube wells of Abdul Latif Akand and Akkach Ali’s Eri Scheme of Betuan village from the pole. Later, the miscreants removed the parts including the electric wire and left. The estimated value of which is Tk. 3.5 lakhs.
Meanwhile, irrigation activities of the two tube wells have come to a complete halt after the transfer was stolen. As a result, the crop yield of about three hundred bighas of land of these projects fell into uncertainty.
According to the scheme owners, it is not possible for ordinary people to steal power transformers while the power lines are on. They also commented that any person associated with rural electricity may be involved in this work.
Nurul Shamsul Huda, Deputy General Manager of Palli Bidyut’s Bhangura zonal office, admitted the theft and said, “I have informed the police in writing.”
M.Faisal bin Ahsan ,OC of Bhangura Police Station said police were sent to the spot after receiving the news. At the same time, efforts are being made to recover the goods and find the cycle.
