5 lakh people receive NID related online service amid COVID-19 shutdown

Around five lakh people have received National Identity (NID) card related services through online in 15 days amid the nationwide shutdown in the awake of COVID-19 situation. “More than 500,000 people received NID related services through online from April 27 to May 11,” officer-in-charge (communication) of Election Commission’s (EC’s) Idea Project Squadron Leader Kazi Ashikuzzaman recently told newsmen.
The people of the country can now enjoy their civic rights without any hassle as the government has reached the online services to the doorsteps of the people, he said, adding that a large amount of state money is also being saved as the people are being facilitated to print their NID cards themselves through online staying at their homes.
The people can get all kinds services, including withdrawal of their salaries and allowances and relief without any suffering, using the NID cards received through online, Ashikuzzaman said.
More than 6.5 lakh people got registration so far through the website https://services.nidw.gov.bd to get NID related services, he said, adding that services are also being provided through an official facebook page of the NID wing of the Election Commission.
A team is monitoring the page round the clock and delivering the required services to the citizens, the official said.
