Four more cases of coronavirus infection have been found in Bangladesh. Among them, two are doctors, said the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).
With these new cases the total number of confirmed patients stood at 48, said Professor Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora, Director of the IEDCR at a press briefing in Dhaka on Friday.
“All four, except one, tested positive after coming in contact with coronavirus infected patients. The age of the new patients is between 20 and 30, between 31 and 40, between 41 and 50 and between 50 and 60 respectively,” she said.
Prof. Sabrina urged people to follow the instructions of the government, IEDCR, Health Ministry and the local administration to restrain the spread of coronavirus in the country.
She said that the government has launched control rooms in every district and upazila to help people and make them aware about coronavirus.
“On top of that a combined control room has been launched under the supervision of Directorate General of Health Services where different organisations are working to mitigate the crisis,” the IEDCR Director said.
She also said that testing services are being extended despite limitations. “We are trying our best to fight against the spread of the virus,” she said.
Prof Sabrina said that ensuring Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all concerned persons is a huge challenge, but several national, international organisations, NGOs and local businesses are helping them to ensure PPEs.
Eleven people out of the 48 cases of the virus infection have been released from hospitals after getting recovery, she said.
Five patients have died so far from the virus and the rest 32 are under medical treatment in hospitals, the IEDCR director said.
