JU Correspondent :

The central committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has suspended four leaders of the BCL, Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit, including General Secretary Razib Ahmed Rasel.
Meanwhile, Proctor of the University Dr Mujibur Rahman resigned his post on Monday in view of the BCL factional clash. Dr Rahman said that he had submitted his resignation letter to the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Farzana Islam.
The three other suspended leaders are: JU Organizing Secretary Faisal Hossain Dipu, Sports Secretary Niamul Taj and Sub-Social Welfare Secretary Basirul. They had been suspended on account of BCL infighting on JU campus on Sunday. After the expulsion order of General Secretary Razib Ahmed Rasel reaching the campus, the workers and the leaders became surprised because he had no participation in the clash.
A large number of BCL leaders and activists (on condition of anonymity) said that suspension of Razib was wrong as he did not provoke fight. They demanded withdrawal of suspension order on Razib and holding of the fair investigation.
Sabbir Ahmed of JU Physics department said that some BCL leaders took meals at a restaurant on the campus but paid no bills. Razib protested it. Perhaps this was his offence.
To take revenge, rival groups attacked his supporters and injured at least six. Following the attack, a bloody clash occurred between the rival groups of students at Shaheed Salam Barkat Hall and Mir Mosharaf Hossain Hall leaving at least 25 students injured. Some teachers also condemned the suspension of Razib as he was on legal stance against the nonpayment of food bills. Confirming that, BCL central general secretary Siddiqui Nazmul Alam said that, “We primarily have taken the decision for their alleged involvement and further decision will be taken after proper investigation into the incident through forming a probe body”.
Following the suspension, Rashedul Hasan Rasel, Joint-Secretary of JUBCL, will hold the general secretary’s charge, he said. On Sunday night, BCL central committee’s president and general secretary came to JU and met the JU BCL to discuss the reasons of clash. Sources said that a probe body would be formed to investigate the clashes.
At least 20 students were injured and one received bullet as the feuding groups traded at least 10 rounds of gunshots in front of Mir Musharraf Hossain Hall during a one hour long clash.
Two platoons of Police have been deployed in strategic point of the campus to avert further untoward situation.
The BCL activists of both groups, equipped with firearms and other lethal weapons, took positions and swooped on rivals triggering a chase and counter-chase, which soon turned into a violent clash that continued from 4pm to 5pm. Among injured, two bullets injured BCL activists were admitted into Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar.
