A four-day programme has been taken to celebrate Janmastami, the holy birth anniversary of Lord Krishna and one of the major religious festivals of the Hindu community, in the port city in a befitting manner. Sree Sree Janmastami Udjapan Parishad (SSJUP), Chattogram has taken the programme beginning on Friday.
The programme includes discussion, Rishi and Boisnab conference, recitation from the holy books (Pabitra Namkirtan), scholarship hand over among meritorious students and distribution of foods among devotees.
A grand rally titled “Mohashovajatra” will be brought out in the city on today( Friday) from JM Sen Hall premises. Anindo Bannerjee, assistant high Indian commissioner to Bangladesh, will inaugurate the rally.
A religious discussion meeting will also be held at JM Sen Hall at 5 pm on Friday. Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, MP will attend the function as chief guest.SSJUP leaders at a press conference at Chattogram Press Club Wednesday highlighted different aspects of the program.
They called upon the members of the Hindu Community and other concerned to come forward to make the celebration a success. Bimol Kanti Dey, general secretary of SSJUP, read out the written statement in the press conference.
The SSJUP leaders also raised 11-points demands that include declaration of four-day government holiday on the occasion of Durgapuja and reconstitution of Hindu Religion Welfare Trust as Hindhu Foundation.Former SSJUP President and Mayor of Raozan Pourshova Devasish Palit, former GS Advocate Chandan Talukder, Executive President Dr Monotosh Dhar, Vice Presidents Shadhon Dhar, SSJUP leaders Alok Das, Chandon Das and Advocate Tapan Kumar Das, among others, were present at the press conference.
