Coronavirus: 360 expatriates in home quarantines in Chitalmari, one fined in Melandah

Some 360 expatriates who returned home in the different villages under Chitalmari Upazila in Bagerhat district recently were advised to stay in their home quarantines.
This advice was given in an emergency meeting held in the Chitalmari Upazila Parishad hall room on March 18. In order to create awareness among the people and to prevent the corona virus some 63 ward watch committees were formed in the Upazila. It was disclosed to the newsmen by Md. Maruful Alam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Chitalmari.
UNO said , as many as many as 427 persons returned to the different places of Chitalmari Upazila recently from India, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, USA, Jordan, Singapore, Oman, Iraq and some other foreign countries. 67 persons out total 427 repatriates already passed 14 days in home quarantines. So, the rest 360 repatriates were advised to stay in their home quarantines. But no corona virus patient was detected in any where of Chitalmari Upazila so far.
Dr. Mamun Hasan, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer of Chitalmari told, some 5 isolation beds were created in the Upazila Health Complex and some 100 ordinary beds were created in the local Chitalmari Govt. S M High School while 20 out of those beds were provided with water and electricity facilities. He mentioned that no corona virus patient was found in the Upazila so far.
This emergency meeting was held with MD. Maruful Alam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer in the chair while it was attended by Ashok Kumar Boral, Chairman, Chitalmari Upazila Parishad, Md. Babul Hosain, President of Chitalmari Upazila Awami League, Pijus Kanti Roy, General Secretary of Upazila Awami League, people’s representatives, Government and non-government officials and the local elite.
Jamalpur Correspondent adds: Though temporary quarantine home has been set up at Melandah in Jamalpur; many expatriates do not adhere to the location quarantine.
Tamim Al-Yameen, a mobile court magistrate fined Tk 10,000 for returning Saudis to Bazlur Rashid (45) on March 19 for disobeying the administration’s directive.
 Expatriate Bazlur Rashid is a son of Lokman Ali of Indrabaree village. About a week ago, the expatriate returned. Rule of quarantine for two weeks. He disobeyed the order and was moving freely in the area. He was later quarantined in the Mirza Azam auditorium of the melandaha upazila.
UNO Tamim Al-Yameen said a temporary quarantine home has been set up in the Mirza Azam Auditorium, as per the decision of the Upazila Committee to prevent the transmission of the Corona virus. Arrangements have been made for those who do not adhere to the home quarantine.
According to the Jamalpur Civil Surgeon, the number of suspected 51 corona virus cases has increased from the last 24 hours. The number of suspects returning abroad in seven upazilas, Each of them has been instructed by the district health department to stay in the home quarantine.
