Nomination papers of 33 candidates including those for posts of chairman, vice-chairman in 6 Upazilas elections in Sylhet have been rejected by District Returning Officer due to lack of proper information during the assessment of the papers at the District Election Office yesterday. Among the rejected candidates, 9 submitted for Chairman Post, 16 for Vice-Chairman and 8 were female candidates for Vice-Chairman Posts.
District Election Officer, Azizul Islam, told that due to mistakes in filling the nomination papers, avoiding taxes and dissimilarity of information were the main reasons for rejecting the nomination papers,
But he said, papers that were rejected for simple mistakes can be submitted again with corrections till 5pm. A total of 122 candidates for 6 upazillas in Sylhet District submitted nomination paper for the upcoming Upazilla election due to be held on 19 February. The election will be held at Companiganj, Jaintiapur, Goainghat, Golapganj, Zakiganj and Bishwanath upazillas in Sylhet District.
