At least 30 shops were gutted in a devastating fire at Noakhali Market Goli of Panchhari Bazaar under Panchhari upazila here early Monday.
According to district fire brigade office and shop owners, the fire originated from an electric short circuit of a shop at 3:30am and soon engulfed adjacent shops rapidly.
On information, a fire fighting unit from Khagrachhari Fire Service Station and Panchhari Police rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after one hour’s frantic efforts with the help of army, BGB and locals.
The affected shop owners estimated the losses up to Tk 1 crore.
