A trial tribunal here on Tuesday convicted three persons and sentenced them to capital punishment each for abducting and killing a baby in the district around three years back.
The court also sentenced another accused of the case to behind the bar unto death.
Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Shirin Kabita Akhter pronounced the verdict in presence of them in the dock this afternoon.
The convicts are: Mazedur Rahman alias Sagar, Nazmul Haque and Ripon Sarker Liton. The lifer is Asinur Begum, mother of Mazedur Rahman. All are the residents of Berabari village under Mohanpur upazila.
The three convicts were fined Taka 20,000 each while the life-imprisoned one Taka 10,000.
Besides, three other accused of the case were acquitted as the murder charge could not be proved beyond doubt.
According to the prosecution story, in brief, is that the accused in accomplish with each other kidnapped Fazley Hossain Rabbi, 10, a class-three student of Berabari Government Primary School, on December 20, 2014. Then they brutally killed the boy and dumped his body in an irrigation canal.
Being informed by local people, police recovered the body on December 26.
