3 shot dead in Narsingdi, Jessore, Jamalpur

At least three persons, including a pro-BNP union parishad (UP) member and a Jubo League activist, were shot dead by assailants in Narsingdi, Jessore and Jamalpur districts from Sunday night to Monday afternoon.
The victims identified as Ariful Islam, 38, was the member Ward No. 7 of Putia UP in Shibpur upazila, Monowar Hossain, 26, an activist of the local Jubo League unit, and Arif Mia, 35, an executive of Grameenphone, our correspondents reported, quoting local police sources.
In Narsingdi, a gang of miscreants riding two motorbikes came at Boroitola and opened fire at Ariful from behind around at noon, leaving him critically injured. Locals rushed him to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead, said Khandakar Imam Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Shibpur Police Station.
Protesting the killing, local people put barricades on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Boroitola and ransacked at least 10 vehicles, suspending transport movement on the route.
Amena Begum, Superintendent of Police (SP) in Narsingdi, visited the spot and assured the agitated locals that the perpetrators would be detained immediately. Following the assurance, the agitated local people withdrew their barricade on the highway in the afternoon.
In Jessore, the local Jubo League activist Monwar was shot dead by unidentified miscreants at Baghdanga village in Monirampur upazila on Sunday night.
Quoting the local sources, Monirampur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Molla Khabir Ahmed said that a young man came and asked Monowar to go with him in front of local Baghdanga School while he was sitting with his friend in Baghdanga Bazaar at night. When Monowar went in front of the school, a gang of miscreants opened fire at him, leaving him critically injured. Later, local people rushed him to Jessore Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 10:00pm.
A case had been filed in this connection, the police official said.
In Jamalpur, sales executive of Grameenphone Arif Mia was shot dead by unidentified miscreants around at Charbari in Sadar upazila 10:30am.
Three muggers on two motorbikes blocked their way at Hasil Bot Tola and fired a bullet on Arif’s chest. Locals rushed Arif to Jamalpur General Hospital where he succumbed to his injures around 12:30pm.
Sadar Police Station’s ASI Ataur Rahman confirmed the matter.
