A court on Wednesday sentenced three men to death following their conviction in a case filed over the gang-rape of a woman in Rajbari.
The convicts identified as Rana Molla, 24, Mamun Molla, 20, and Hannan Sardar, 26, have also been fined with Tk1 lakh each.
Judge Sharmin Nigar of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal passed the verdict under Section 9 (3) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention (Amendment) Act 2003.
Confirming the matter, Assistant Public Prosecutor Advocate Khan Jahurul Haque disclosed the case details to media.
On February 23, 2018, the rape survivor had left Dhaka for Gopalganj. She arrived at Goalanda intersection in Rajbari late in the night and was waiting for a bus to her destination.
Finding her alone, Rana Molla and Mamun Molla misled her by saying she would not find any bus there and offered to take her to Faridpur where she would be able to board her bus. Deceived by their lies, the woman got on a three-wheeler with them.
On their way, Hannan Sardar got on the three-wheeler and began harassing the woman. At one point, the trio threatened to kill her. They later took her to an isolated place and raped her there.
After they let the woman go, she made her way to Faridpur where she filed a verbal complaint with Rapid Action Battalion.
Later, she went on to file a written complaint with the Rajbari police station on February 25.
