Three people were injured in a clash between two groups of Awami League activists at Haiderganj Bazar in Raipur upazila on Friday noon over establishing supremacy.
Two of the injured were identified as Shahid Ullah, chairman of Uttar Char Ababil union parishad and former vice-president of district Awami League, and Manu Miah.
Locals said, two groups of the ruling party-one led by joint secretary of Raipur upazila Awami League Jafar Ullah Dulal Hawladar and the other by Shahid Ullah-had long been at loggerheads over establishing their dominance in the locality.
On Friday noon, supporters of Jafar attacked Shahid Ullah in front of the union parishad office, leaving him injured.
Following the attack, Shahid’s men gave a tremendous trashing to Manu Miah, a supporter of Dulal group, leaving him critically injured.
Later, the two groups engaged in a clash when chases and counter-chases took place, leaving one more injured.
On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control.
Officer-in-charge of Raipur Police Station M Manjurul Haq Akhand confirmed the incident.
