28th Bangladesh Int’l Junior Tennis begins

The 28th Bangladesh International Junior Tennis Championship-2014, an ITF Junior 18/U World Ranking Tournament, began at Raman National Tennis Complex here on Monday.
Seventy-seven players, including 48 boys and 29 girls, from 18 countries are taking part in the main draw of the six-day competition organised by Bangladesh Tennis Federation (BTF).
State Minister for Foreign Affairs and President of Bangladesh Tennis Federation Shahriar Alam will be present at the closing function on Saturday (Nov 8).
Participating countries are: Chinese Taipei, China, Dominic Republic, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, Northern Mariana Islands, Pakistan, the Philippines, Thailand, the USA, Uzbekistan and hosts Bangladesh.
BTF general secretary Abdur Rahman disclosed the details of the competition at a press conference at the federation office on Monday.
BTF member and Tournament Director Lutfor Rahman Santo and Tournament Referee Joy Mukherjee also spoke on the occasion.
Indian team, comprised of 18 boys and 11 girls, is the biggest side in the meet followed by hosts Bangladesh which consist of 11 boys and six girls.
Nikshep Ballekere Ravikumar of India is the top seed boys’ player with a rating of 516 while Sabina Smirnova of Uzbekistan is the top seed among the girl players with a rating of 732.
