A mobile court has seized 264 sacks of rice from Helalia Haat in Bogra’s Adamdighi Upazila for smuggling in a warehouse without selling it among the beneficiaries under the food-friendly program. On Wednesday morning, Adamdighi Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mahbuba Haque led the mobile court and seized the rice.
According to the mobile court,260 sacks of rice were allotted to Belal Hossain, a dealer at Helalia Haat in Santahar Union of Adamdighi Upazila, for sale under the food-friendly program. Last Monday and Tuesday the rice was scheduled to be sold among the beneficiaries.
But dealer Belal Hossain did not sell 284 sacks of rice and kept it in secret warehouse.
While smuggling 15 sacks of rice from the warehouse in a battery-powered autocharger on Wednesday morning, the locals detained the autorchazer and informed the police.
Adamdighi police Sub-Inspector Fazlur Rahman went to the spot and seized 15 sacks of rice and informed the matter to Upazila Nirbahi Officer Seema Sharmin. Under the direction of Upazila Nirbahi Officer Seema Sharmin, the mobile court headed by Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Mahbuba Haque went to Helalia Hat and searched the warehouse of dealer Belal Hossain and seized 234 sacks of sealed food and 15 sacks weighing 50 kg. 264 sacks of rice are currently in the custody of the police.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Mahbuba Haque said Upazila Food Controller Paritosh Kumar filed a regular case in the name of dealer Belal Hossain at Adamdighi Police Station on Wednesday afternoon. Police SI Fazlul Haque confirmed the matter.
