25 shops fined over Tk 19 lakh for food adulteration

Mobile courts of Dhaka North City Corporation and Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution during separate raids in the city on Tuesday fined 25 shops Tk 19, 28000 on charges of selling and preparing foods in unhygienic condition.
As part of the anti-adulteration and irregularities drive during the holy month of Ramzan, one mobile court from DNCC and six from BSTI conducted the raids in the city’s different areas. The BSTI conducted drives at Uttara, Wari, Lalbagh, Mitford, Keraniganj and Savar in association with the district administration, RAB, APBN and DMP.
The BSTI mobile courts fined 16 shops and a bakery Tk 16,30, 000.
On the other hand, the DNCC conducted drives in Karwanbazar area in the city. DNCC zonal Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Aziur Rahman led the drive.
 The DNCC mobile court fined 12 shops Tk 2,92,000 and filed cases against them.
Besides, the mobile courts also evicted 70 illegal shops from pavements.
