Bangladesh Coast Guard personnel have detained 24 suspected pirates in Sandwip Upazila of Chittagong.
A patrol team caught them from Tengar Char around 10pm on Thursday, said a media statement issued by the force. It said the detained men, who the coastguards claim to be members of ‘Bismillah Group’ led by one ‘Alauddin’ and one ‘Bhutta’, had arrived in the area in two wooden boats.
The patrol team also seized eight long-blade machetes, 2,000 pieces of
Kewrha wood, 2,500 meters of banned electric fishing net and a generator from the boats. The detainees were later handed over to Sandwip police, the statement added.
