Fatalities from Covid-19 increased in April comparing with previous months, sources said. Covid-19 claimed 2,404 lives in Bangladesh in April which is more than the other months for the country since the outbreak on March 8 in 2020.
The month bore alone 20.99 percent of the total 11,450 coronavirus-related deaths reported until last month.
In the month, about 1,47,837 infections were recorded, according to the data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The data showed that about 568 covid infected patients died in January this year while 281 in February and 638 in March.
Dhaka division alone reported 6,714 deaths which is 58.33 percent.
According to the DGHS data, the country broke all previous records of Covid-19 deaths, reporting 112 fatalities in a single day on April 19.
On April 7, the country recorded its highest single-day cases of 7,626. It recorded that over 100 died from the coronavirus daily from April 16 to19 and on April 25.
The government imposed a strict lockdown on April 14, but people are still found indifferent to follow health safety rules.
When contacted, Professor Dr. Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of DGHS told The New Nation, “Though the number of deaths from the Covid-19 increased in the recent days, there is no reason of becoming astonished. Most of the deaths were from other diseases like kidney failure, cardiac problems and old age complexities.”
