The BNP-led 20-party alliance is now planning to wage a tougher movement that will ultimately ensure downfall of the present government.
Alongside with her party, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia is also giving importance on the alliance partners to get result in a short-time movement, insiders of the alliance said on Sunday.
Talking to The New Nation, the alliance leaders said that Khaleda Zia discussed the strategy of the movement with them on Saturday night. She is now rigid on her stance to lead a ‘successful’ movement to force the government to realize the demand for fresh polls under a non-party administration, they said.
Khaleda Zia sat with top leaders of the alliance on Saturday night at her Gulshan office to work out the next course of action and finalise the decisive movement strategy.
Earlier, she sat with her party’s standing committee members, advisers, vice-chairmen and joint secretary generals.
Chairman of Islami Oikya Jote Maulana Abdul Latif Nezami yesterday said that it is high time to launch a tougher movement against the government. Khaleda Zia is going to launch a decisive movement soon under the banner of the 20-party alliance and the movement ‘must be successful’.
The plan and strategy of the movement have been discussed in the alliance meeting, he added.
BNP standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy said that his party chief
has discussed the strategy of the final movement with the party senior leaders and the leaders of the alliance. She is now ready to lead a decisive movement which will ensure the downfall of the government, he said.
Sources said that the alliance leaders in the Saturday’s meeting discussed the plan to form a platform with all other political parties outside the 20-party coalition for waging a simultaneous movement.
The alliance is planning to call continuous hartal, blockade and other tougher programmes in realization of the demand for mid-term polls. Leaders of the alliance believe that continuous movement programmes will force the government to quit power, they added.
The alliance wants to begin its planned movement after December 16 and gear up the movement in January next. It is planning to celebrate the upcoming ‘Victory Day’ unitedly. The alliance leaders opined to announce united programme on the occasion of the Victory Day. Khaleda Zia supported the opinions of the alliance leaders, the sources said.
The alliance leaders laid stress on short-time but decisive movement to overthrow the government. In this context, they said that the 1969 uprising became successful within a short-time after the killing of Assad. Similarly, the downfall of Ershad was also ensured just days after the dead of Dr Milon. So, the alliance leaders favoured the short-time movement, said the meeting sources.
In the meeting, Khaleda Zia asked the alliance leaders to come to the streets after the call of the movement. The leaders promised that they would remain besides the BNP chief.
It was also decided that the BNP-led alliance will call hartal programme if the government increase the price of electricity and gas. If the hartal is called, it will be the beginning of the short-time movement, as the alliance would not come back from the streets.
The movement against the price hike of electricity and gas will ultimately turn into the one-point movement that is the oust government movement.
