20 gold bars seized at HSIA, one held

Staff Reporter :Customs Intelligence Department in a drive seized at least 20 gold bars weighing two kilograms worth around Tk one crore from the city’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Saturday morning. They arrested a passenger from an aircraft of Biman Airlines in this connection. The arrested man has been identified as Hashim Mollah, 35, hailing from Cox’s Bazar district, Customs Officials said. Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department’s Joint Commissioner Kazi Zia Uddin said that a team of Customs officials intercepted Hashim at around 7:00am when he was about to leave the airport through the Green Channel. They found the gold bars in an electric iron after scanning the luggage in his possession.Hashim arrived in Dhaka from Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia by an aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the Customs Official said. He is being interrogated in this connection, he said.
