A kishoreganj court on Wednesday afternoon has sentenced Indian separatist organization United Liberation Front of Asam (ULFA) organizing secretary Major Ranjan Chowdhury alias Pradeep Roy (60) and his Bangladeshi aide Pradeep Marak (69) 10 years imprisonment and a fines Tk 5000 in a case filed under the Explosives Act. .
The Additional District and Sessions Judge Md.. Kamal Hossain announced this verdict in the presence of two accused. Earlier, the accused were produced in the court amid tight security.
According to the details of the case and related sources, a team of RAB-9 arrested Major Ranjan and his associate Pradeep Marak while fleeing on the morning of July 17, 2010 in the Lakshipur area of Bhairab Upazila of Kishoreganj on the morning of July 17, 2010.
RAB said that 2 pistols, 4 rounds of bullets, 4 bombs including materials for making hand bombs and other equipment were recovered from them.

On January 6, 2011, the police filed a charge sheet in the court against Major Ranjan Chowdhury and his accomplice in 3 cases filed under the Arms, Explosives and Anti-Terrorism Act.
On April 8, 2015, the special tribunal of Kishoreganj passed judgment in two cases of anti-terrorism and arms laws. Special Tribunal of Kishoreganj sentenced ULFA top leader Major Ranjan Chowdhury alias Pradeep Roy to life imprisonment and a fine of Tk 20,000 in two cases filed under the Arms and Anti-Terrorism Act.
On the other hand, his associate Pradeep Marak was sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Tk 20,000 in the Anti-Terrorism Act case, 6 months of rigorous imprisonment in default and acquitted in the Arms Act case.
ULFA leader Paresh Barua’s associate Ranjan Chowdhury alias Major Ranjan alias Pradeep Roy is the son of deceased Madhusudhan Roy of Madhu Sholmari village of Gouripur police station in Dhubri district of Assam.
He was secretly staying in Bangladesh after marrying Ravitra Bhram, daughter of Monindra Hagid, a resident of Ghazni in Jhenaigati upazila of Sherpur.
At that time, Pradeep Marak, son of Arat Sangma, of Bakakura village of Jhenaigati police station in Sherpur district, was working as his associate.
