Staff Reporter :Two government Secretaries, MM Niaz Uddin Mia and AKM Amir Hossain, who obtained certificates as freedom fighter (FF) through forgery, voluntarily went on retirement on Thursday. Health and Family Welfare Secretary Niaz Uddin Mia submitted his resignation letter to the Secretary of Public Administration Ministry in the morning while, Public Service Commission Secretary AKM Amir Hossain in the afternoon. They took the decision on ground of health. Both the Secretaries did it in order to avoid punitive action against them for their alleged involvement in the scam, sources in the Public Administration Ministry said. Confirming the matter, Secretary of Public Administration Ministry Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury told The New Nation that the resignation letter of MM Niaz Uddin Mia reached his office at 11am and that of AKM Amir Hossain at noon. The Anti-Corruption Commission earlier found that Niaz Uddin, AKM Amir Hossain and three others managed FF certificates illegally with the view to extending their service period last year.They are former Liberation War Affairs Secretary KH Masud Siddiqui (now in retirement), former Joint Secretary of Liberation War Affairs Ministry Abul Kashem Talukder (currently an OSD) and Privatisation Commission Chairman Molla Waheeduzzaman.
