Two madrasa girls were allegedly raped by two boatmen in a trawler in Arial Kha River near Panchkhola in Sadar upazila of Madaripur district on Monday night.
One of the victims is a ninth grader while another a sixth grader at Zajira Dakhil Madrasa in the upazila, said Shaugatul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station. They were sent to Sadar hospital for treatment.
Police in a drive arrested the alleged rapists-Rubel, 25, son of one Nannu Molla of Panchkhola, and Masud Morol, 30, son of Jalil Morol of the same village.
They were sent to jail following an order of a Madaripur court, the OC said.
The two victim girls were returning from their respective maternal grandfathers’ houses in the district town. They boarded the trawler around 10:30pm to cross the Arial Khan River. They were alone at the trawler at that time, the police official said.
Taking advantage of the situation, Rubel raped a girl in the trawler while Masud raped the other girl on the bank of the river before abandoning them, the OC said.
Locals found the girls lying on the bank and inform the police, he said. A case was filed with Madaripur Sadar Police Station on Tuesday afternoon, he added.
