Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained two Indian nationals along with gold ornaments weighing 450 grams and cash money from bordering Amrakhali area here on Friday.
The detainees are Sudir Chao, 35, son of Hira Chao of Sonapur Jagatipota area in Kolkata, and Sadananda, 27, son of Ramprashad Rao of Basubo in Howrah.
Tipped-off that two Indian nationals would
smuggle gold and cash into India from Bangladesh through Benapole border, a BGB team conducted a drive in the bordering area at noon and detained the two Indian citizens on suspicion, said Lt Col Ariful Haque, commanding officer of BGB Battalion-49.
Later, gold ornaments weighing 450 grams, Tk 20 lakh and 2,630 Indian Rupees were recovered from their possession, he said.
The detainees were later handed over to Benapole Port Police Station and a case was filed, the BGB official added.
