2 die in Dhaka ‘gunfight’

Two suspected kidnappers succumbed to gunshot wounds, received during a ‘gunfight’ with RAB on Sunday.The victims have been identified as ‘Wasim’, 50 and ‘Sangram’, 45. RAB-10 commander Lt Col Khandaker Golam Sarowar said the skirmish took place around Monday noon at the city’s Kadamtali area, which also left three members of the elite force injured. Acting on a tip that several abducted people were being held at a house there, RAB personnel went to Kadamtali area, he said. “The kidnappers opened fire when they saw RAB personnel,” Sarowar claimed. “RAB fired back in retaliation and during the encounter three of our men and two others were hit by bullets.” He said three abducted people had been rescued from the house. Two pistols had also been found at the spot, claimed the RAB officer. He said more details would be divulged later. Doctors at the capital’s Mitford Hospital declared the two suspected kidnappers dead after they were rushed in. Dr Shahadeb Rajbangshi of the hospital told : “The RAB brought them in around 2pm. But the two had died earlier. Both of the bodies have marks of gunshots.” – bdnews24.com
