Staff Reporter :The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Tuesday approved charge sheet against 18 people, including Sohel Rana, in a case filed for forging Rana Plaza design. The senior officers of the ACC in its regular meeting gave the approval of the charge sheet, which will be submitted to the court shortly. When asked about Sohel Rana’s inclusion in the charge sheet though his name was not in the first information report (FIR), ACC Commission Shahabuddin Chuppu told the journalists in his office room that after filling the FIR, the inquiry team collected the evidence from the witnesses about his involvement in the plaza design scam.Although Rana obtained permission for a six-storey building, he resorted to design-forgery adding four more above six-storeyed, the commissioner said. He used the building as a garment factory illegally instead of shopping complex. Installation of heavy engines was responsible for the crash, he went on, “Rana also put pressure on the workers to continue their duties inside the building despite sensing its vulnerable condition. So, he cannot avoid the liability of the largest ever destruction, leaving 1100 people dead and several thousand injured”.When asked about the exclusion of officers of RAJUK from the charge sheet despite their indifference to the duties, he said that the matter would be considered the next time. ACC sued 17 people, including parents of Sohel Rana and mayor of Savar Municipality, in a case filed with Savar Thana on June 15. At that time Rana was excluded from the case, stating that he was not the owner of the building in question.Apart form Sohel Rana, his parents Abdul Khalek and Marzina, Refaeth Ullah, Mayor of Savar Municipality, Uttam Kumar Roy, Rafiqul Islam, Mahbubur Rahman, Mohammad Ali, A K M Masud Reza, Hasan Rasel, Farzana Islam and Abdul Mutaleb, among others, have been indicted in the charge sheet.
