A total of 13 members of a human trafficking gang, including two Rohingya people, were arrested by a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from different parts of the capital and Keraniganj on Thursday night.
The two Rohingyas were identified as Mushfeka, 19, and Nur Begum while the others were identified as Shantana, 13, Babul Mia, 40, his wife Kakoli, 35, Jahangir Alam, 52, Manik, 45, RanaNbiswas, 34, Humayun Kabir, 43, Al-Mamun, 35, Mahfuzur Rahman Masud, 40,
Faruk Mia, 25 and Gouranga Sarkar, all hailed from different parts of the country.
“Tipped off, a team of RAB-10 led by its Deputy Commander Major Mohammad Ashraful Haque, conducted a drive in Hasnabad of South Keraniganj upazila and arrested Mushfeka, Nur Begum and Shantana.”
According to the statement of the arrestees, the elite force members conducted drives in others parts of the capital in the night and arrested ten more people, said a press release of RAB signed by Additional DIG, Mohammad Kayumuzzaman Khan, Commanding officer of RAB-10 Jatrabari Dhalsur camp.
They also recovered several passports, mobile phone, cash and cheque books from their possession. The arrestees were involved in trafficking people to Malaysia and Middle East countries.
