Dengue patients on rise in Cumilla, Barishal: 107 new patients admitted to hospitals

Dengue has been spreading in southern region as infected patients starts reaching from Dhaka ahead of upcoming Eid-ul- Azha .
According to Divisional Health Directorate Office , more 78 new patients infected by dengue were admitted in last 24 hours in different public and private hospitals and clinics in six districts of the division on Monday.  
A total of 466 dengue infected people of the division received treatment from July 16 to till this report.
Among them, 277 people admitted at different hospitals including 44 at Barishal Sher E Beangla Medical College Hospital of the division and rest patients returned home after getting treatment.
Dr. Shymal Krishna Mandal, Assistant Director, Health Directorate of Barishal Division, giving this statistics added that 4 patients died from 16 July to August 3 , 2019. Among them 3 died at Barishal and 1 at Barguna,
Dr. Bakir Hossain, Director, SBMCH , acknowledging the facts, said they taking preparations to manage rush of dengue infected patients by opening separate ward at the newly constructed annex section of the hospital as the deterioration of situation apprehended by home coming visitors during Eid Ul Azaha festival.
SBMCH director informed dengue kits needed to complete dengue tests went out of stock and would be available soon. So patients admitted in Barishal SBMCH they have to test for dengue detection at private diagnostic centers.
He added that due to lack of manpower the pathological center of the hospital have capabilities only to test only till in 2:00 pm.
We already received 500 NS-1 testing kits from Dhaka office on Sunday, I think it would be reached in Barishal on Monday early hours, the SBMCH director added.
In the meantime Ishahaq Hawlader, father of a dengue infected infant, told his son, Tauhid,18 months, of Barguna, with fever admitted at Barishal SBMCH on August 2 at 2.25 pm.
Hospital authority asked him to complete test from outside as their kits went out of stock. But condition of my son became critical and he succumbed to death on way after testing at private diagnostic center . So he returned native home with the dead body without informing hospital authority.
Dr. Bakir Hossain, about this unlisted death, said later we collected NS-1 testing report, where dengue infection found positive. But hospital authourity did not count him in the death list of dengue patients, because they left hospital without informing us and more testing was needed to confirm it.
Dr. Abdur Rahim, Divisional Heath Director, said rush of suspected patients for taking dengue-tests at private diagnostic centers increasing as no dengue testing-kits (like NS-I) yet reached in 43 public hospitals including one Medical college Hospital of Barishal Division.
The patients alleged that some of private diagnostic centers collecting excessive-charges without giving any receipt. Even some of them were collecting dengue-testing fees without any capabilities of testing dengue virus infection.
Mofijur Rahman Kamal, President of Barishal Diagnostic Centers Owner’s Association, said we already met health decorate officials for ensuring them about collecting government fixed charges for testing dengue infection. We yet not received any allegation about violation of government decision and if any body violated that, action would be taken against him.
Dr. Abdur Rahim, Divisional Health Director, also cautioned that action would be taken if any allegation of taking collecting excessive charges than government fixed rate for dengue tests.
UNB from Cumilla adds: Twenty-nine more dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals and clinics of the district in the last 24 hours till Monday morning as the dengue situation has worsened here as in many other parts of the country.
Director of Cumilla Medical College Hospital Dr Swapan Kumar Adhikari said they were struggling with the mounting pressure of patients, including that of dengue.
He said other patients are also facing problems for the rise in dengue patients.
Dr Swapan Kumar, however, said there is nothing to worry as most of the dengue patients are in stable condition. At least 86 people diagnosed with dengue virus are undergoing treatment in different hospitals of the district, he said.
Dr Kumar said the Pathology Department of their Cumilla Medical College Hospital have found 13 dengue-affected people after testing the blood samples of 400 people as of now.

Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarowar Morshed Chowdhury attended the programme as Chief Guest while BMA District President Dr Mahabub Iqbal in the chair.
It was addressed among others by former health director Dr. Deen Mohammad, Additional SP Nazmul Islam, Syed Nazurl Islam Medical College Hospital Dr. Saidur Rahman, its Vice-Principal Prof Dr. Sajor Kumar Dus, Civil Surgeon Dr. Habibur Rahman, Deputy Director of 250-Bed General Hospital Dr. Sultana Razia, Child Specialist Associate Professor Dr. Mohasin, BMA District Secretary Dr. Abdul Wahab Badal and Medicine Consultant Dr. Ataur Rahman.

Jashore Correspondent adds: Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Jashore District Unit distributed leaflets among people of Jashore to make people conscious about dengue fever on Sunday. Professor Nargis Begum, convener, Jashore district unit BNP led the campaign.
A total of 148 dengue patients were admitted at Jashore hospitals in last 17 day, according to the office of civil surgeon.
