A total of 1,000 flood affected families of two upazilas of the district received financial grant of Taka 30 lakh from World Food Programme (WFP) before Eid-ul-Azha through mobile banking.
The grant was distributed to the beneficiaries through WFP’s partner organization Eco Social Development Organization (ESDO), Thakurgaon with the involvement of upazila administration and local government body.
To mitigate their sufferings and woes caused by natural calamity, the WFP stood beside the flood hit families and took initiative to disburse financial grant to them as part of its corporate social responsibility.
Accordingly, the grant amounting to Tk 30 lakh were distributed to 500 flood affected families of Mollarchar, Kamarjani and Gidari unions of Sadar upazila and Erendabari, Fazlupur, Fulchhari and Gozaria unions of Fulchhari upazila through Dutch Bangla Mobile Banking (DBMB).
Each of the beneficiaries received grant of Tk 3,000 from the WFP before Eid festival through the modern digitized system, said district manager of ESDO Azizul Haque.
Earlier, all the selected beneficiaries were provided with SIM cards for respective mobile phone sets from the organization so that they could receive grant from the organization without any irregularities, he also said.
Like other beneficiaries, Abiran Begum of Dhutichora village under Gidari union of Sadar upazila expressed her gratefulness to the WFP for sending financial grant of Tk 3000 to her through mobile phone banking without any hassle.

Sadar UNO Ashraful Momin Khan highly appreciated the grant distribution system of WFP through mobile banking in cooperation with DBMB as all the beneficiaries received the grant in their respective mobile accounts without any complexities.
