Ten journalists of the print and electronic media have been awarded ‘Ritu Journalist Fellowship Award’ on Sunday.
The awards were given at an event organized in the capital’s CIRDAP International Conference Centre in recognition of their dedication and hard work.
The recipients are — Masudul Hoque of UNB, Mohammad Bahaudedin Al Imran of Bangla Trubune, Mohammad Gulam Rabbani of The New Nation, Nawaz Farhin of Dhaka Tribune, Zahidur Rahman of
Daily Samakal, Muslim Jahan Setu of Daily Prothom Alo, Sadia Nancy of Radio Today, Md Nahian Naser of Radio Next, S M Atiqur Rahman of NTV and Azizur Rahman of JamunaTV.
Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud speaking at the award giving ceremony as the chief guest said, “Currently, there are many negative and misleading news that keep circulating in the media, but there are also many good achievements that the mass people needs to know about.
“We need to instill hope within them through good news. It is true that we are progressing as a state, but I’m not so sure how much we are progressing as a society. Alongside material development, societal development is equally important. In this regard, the role of journalists is the most important,” he said.
Director General of Directorate General of Family Planning Quazi A K M Mohiul Islam, Project Director of Multi-sectoral Programme on Violence Against Women under the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs Dr Abul Hossain, Deputy Head of Mission of The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Jeroen Steeghs, among others, were present on the occasion.
The Ritu project started in Bangladesh in 2016 with the aim to improve health, well-being and social and economic participation of girls through improved menstrual Hygi3ene management (MHM).
