Some 10 houses were gutted when a big fire broke out in Babuganj cluster village under Chitalmari Upazila in the district on Wednesday evening.
Locals said that in the evening a child was playing with a burning lamp in a house belonging to one Suvas Das and at stage the house caught fire from the lamp and spread to its adjacent houses and went out of control within moments. On seeing the flame of fire and on hearing hue and cry the neighbouring people and the villages rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after a long fighting for about 2 hours. But in spite of that all the ten houses with their all belongings were completely burnt to ashes. As a result, members of ten familiarities were rendered homeless.
The loss of fire is estimated at Tk.20 lakh.
